PART 17: THERE IS A GIRL TOO!

<< Previous Out of the three grownups, one registered itself as a male - the very first official male in the group. Besides the other tiny fishes, there were two apparently grownup females – a Red Platy and a Wagtail Platy. The Red Platy started to see its female features developing. Eventually, it got a rounder belly and a more female-like shape (in fish terms!). I was really apprehensive. The memory of the first discussed Red Platy becoming a male was still fresh in my mind. I did not really want another male in the group. Another male would result in frequent fights and aggression.

So, I kept a close eye on the Red Platy and its development. After a few days, I did not notice any signs of the Red Platy turning into a Male! So, I was assured that the Red Platy was not going to become a male. Usually, it is better balanced and more harmonious if there are fewer males and more females in a Platy population. Keeping the tiny fishes aside, the ratio was good. I had one male and two females. The female Red Platy was relatively timid. But, the Wagtail Platy was very energetic and a good fighter. It used to fight like a male. It concentrated a lot on eating and growing. It kept on eating. It grew bigger, and better looking, than the rest.
